Replacement Settee Foam – The Miracle Cure

If your cushions are fibre filled, chances are it’s the latter of the two; you need to banish that stuff right away.

Our settee foam is made to last, we can’t promise immortality, but longevity is assured. If your settee cushions are beginning to look like an old prune, we can help. With Foam Factory you can turn that wrinkly old prune into a lovely smooth plum… Our analogies may not be the best, but our settee foam certainly is.

  1. I’m looking to replace the foam inside a sofa made by Calligaris. It is a suede effect sofa. The covering is sound but the foam has become compressed. Do you have any information about how somebody (me), would go about actually performing the replacement of the foam? I have never done this kind of thing myself before, but I have no choice in the matter.

How important is it to get the right size of foam? I assume it would be ok to over estimate the size because I could cut it down, but I am more worried about getting the correct thickness of foam. I can’t risk under estimating he thickness, because its the thickness that is the reason why I need to do the replacement. But if I overestimate I assume again that I could trim it, but cutting down the thickness I imagine would be more more difficult than trimming the lenth or the width because you could end up not making it even so could be lumpy to sit on.

Is the foam easy to cut? What tools would I need including additional materials (specific type of thread, needles etc, special sciccors to trim foam).

Also, do I need to un-stitch my current foam out of the sofa and measure the current size of the foam to give you the size, or can I just measure it externally without opening up the sofa before hand?

    1. Hi Paul,

Unless they have some prior upholstery skills, we generally recommend that customers don’t try to replace foam cushions that can’t be easily removed from the covers. The majority of sofas have removable covers, but not all. If that’s the case, we’d recommend speaking with an upholsterer to assist you. If you would like to speak to one of our sales advisers, they’d be happy to assist you and make recommendations based on your personal requirements. Just use the contact form here on our site. Thanks!
